Bulgaria pays US$1.46 million for non-existing milk
Over 2,000 farmers in Bulgaria had received about BGN2 million (US$1.46 million) of subsidies for milk that they had not produced and sold, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Tsvetan Dimitrov said.
Dimitrov explained that the misappropriation had occurred because the former management of the ministry had not exerted any control.
The money in question had been paid without even checking whether the farmers were actually breeding stock, according to daily The Sega.
