Governor mediates spat over proposed Sanderson Farms plant
Governor Beverly Perdue has mediated a city and county spat over a proposed Sanderson Farms poultry plant but the issue remains unresolved.
The Rocky Mount Telegram reports that leaders from Nash County and the city of Wilson met with the governor in Raleigh earlier this week.
Perdue spokesman Mark Johnson says the governor wants to help the two sides find a resolution to the dispute.
Wilson has sued Nash County over a proposed Sanderson Farms poultry plant. The city is worried about effects on water quality and land values. Nash County says the plant will bring 1,100 jobs to the region.
So far, the two sides have spent over US$1 million in the dispute since it broke out last year.
