Indonesian and Australian livestock associations affirm strong relationship amid challenges

The Indonesian Beef Cattle Industry Association (GUPUSPINDO) and the Australian Livestock Exporters Council (ALEC) have issued a joint statement to reinforce their strong friendship and close working relationship, amid the prevailing challenges in the live cattle industry, Beef Central reported.

Executives from both GUPUSPINDO and ALEC convened in August to deliberate on the industry's status and future prospects. Notably, they are collaboratively planning a forthcoming gathering of importers and exporters in Indonesia scheduled for September. This upcoming event signifies the continuation of a longstanding and meaningful dialogue between the two entities.

Speaking on the close relationship, Pak Didiek Purwanto, chairman of GUPUSPINDO, said that the two organisations interact with a strong spirit of openness and cooperation no matter what challenges they may face.

He said it is important they continue to understand each other’s circumstances so they can each work for the benefit of each other and support the thousands of jobs in Australia and Indonesia that are reliant on the industry, as they provide affordable quality beef to Indonesian families and communities.

David Galvin, chairman of ALEC, emphasised the necessity of maintaining a connection between the two industries as both the Indonesian and Australian Governments address concerns related to positive lumpy skin disease (LSD) tests in Australian cattle. Galvin highlighted the significance of ongoing discussions and cooperative efforts to resolve these concerns.

Galvin affirmed ALEC's commitment to sustaining this pivotal relationship well into the future. He expressed optimism about the upcoming meeting in Jakarta in September, where delegates from both associations are set to converge.
