Russia's 06-07 grain export potential expected at 10 million tonnes
Russia's grain export in the 2006-2007 marketing year is expected to reach ten million tonnes, two million tonnes lower than that last year, agriculture minister Alexey Gordeyev said Monday (Aug 21).
Meanwhile, the grain harvest this year is expected at 73 million tonnes, 9.6 million tonnes less than that in 2005, the Agriculture Department's press office reported.
Gordeyev said Russia had harvested to date 47 million tonnes of grain, six million tonnes less than on the same date last year.
Russia's grain planting and harvesting has been negatively affected by unusually severe frosts in winter and extreme heat in summer.
