Iraq '09 wheat harvest up 96 percent on-year
The Grain Board of Iraq said Thursday (Aug 20) it had received some 1.232 million tonnes of wheat from local farmers during this year's just completed harvest, up 96 percent on that of the previous year.
"Until Aug. 4, the board had received 1.232 million tonnes of wheat compared with 628,681 tonnes received the previous year," Hassan Ibrahim, head of the board, said in a statement seen by Dow Jones Newswires.
He also said the board had received a total of 289,264 tonnes of barley during the year, compared with 9,208 tonnes received the previous year.
