Irish meat plant closes on salmonella link

Dawn Farm Foods has closed its meat plant following its link to a recent outbreak of Salmonella agona in Ireland and the UK that caused ten people to fall ill.

Dawn Farm Foods decided to stop production in Naas, County Kildare, after it was confirmed their product is one of the sources of food poisoning, reports The Daily Mirror of London.

Spokesman Larry Murrin said the company is distraught at the thought that any consumer or customer would have been in any way harmed and the company is taking all the steps it can to re-establish that confidence.

The company said 500 people employed at the plant will not be laid off."

The Irish Food Safety Authority found that some meat products supplied to sandwich chains and caterers, including chicken and pork items - may have been contaminated.
