Peru's fishmeal output up 7.5 percent on-year

 

 

Peru's fish meal production rose 7.5 percent to 264,200 tonnes in June compared with the same month a year earlier when fishmeal production was 245,700 tonnes, the Ministry of Production said in a report Friday (Aug 18).

 

The anchovy haul, used to make fishmeal, reached 1.16 million tonnes in June, up 6.9 percent compared with the same month a year earlier.

 

Peru is the world's largest producer and exporter of fishmeal, used chiefly as animal feed.

 

The total fish haul was 1.23 million tonnes in June, up 6.7 percent compared with June 2005.

 

Meanwhile, Peru exported 162,100 tonnes of fishmeal in June compared with 319,700 tonnes in the same month a year earlier.

 

Peru's overall fish exports brought in US$238.5 million in June, compared with US$239.8 million in Jun 2005.
