EU imports 240,000 tonnes of duty-free wheat from Ukraine
The EU awarded licences to import 239,940 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat in the week of August 11, under a duty-free quota created this year as part of a trade deal between the bloc and Ukraine.
The EU has so far awarded licences to just over 666,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat under the quota, which was opened in April and allows for 950,000 tonnes of Ukrainian wheat to be imported by October 31.
An equivalent quota for Ukrainian corn, which allowed for 400,000 tonnes to be imported between April and October, was exhausted two weeks ago. Demand for the corn quota was fuelled by the EU's reintroduction of a tariff on non-quota corn imports in July.
