Hong Kong bans poultry from northern Italy over H7 outbreak

The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong has imposed an import ban on poultry products from northern Italy on August 17, following a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) regarding an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H7 avian flu.

OIE said that the H7 bird flu was found on a layer farm in Emilia-Romagna of northern Italy, which is an important agricultural region in the country.

Hong Kong imported about 2,076 tonnes of frozen poultry meat and 120,000 poultry eggs from Italy in 2012.
