Grain buying continues in Turkey

Turkey is continuing purchases of grain from local producers and the country's wheat inventories are now at 2.227 million tonnes, the State Grain Office said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 19).

The inventories include those left over from last year, the statement said.

Officials are monitoring the fluctuations in grain prices in Turkey and abroad, and the office plans to take measures to protect the domestic market, the statement said. It will announce the measures in the coming days.

European and US wheat futures have jumped on expectations Russian grain imports will soar this year, after the worst drought in a century damaged its harvest.
