UK beef exports rise 20%, offal exports rise 70% in June

UK beef export volume was up 20% on-year in June, while the value of the offal trade increased by 70% on-year, according to HM Revenue and Customs.

A 9% fall in the unit value of beef was more than offset by the increase in volume, which hit 9,600 tonne in June, said Eblex. Export value was up 9% on-year in June, worth £33.4m.

This was driven by increased export of fresh and chilled carcasses to the Netherlands, while export of cuts to France was also healthy.

Offal exports to all major destinations rose, with volumes increasing two-thirds on-year to more than 3,500 tonnes, valued at £4.9 million. In particular, a 50% rise in offal shipments to Hong Kong made up for lower average values to some export destinations.
