Ukraine gathers 78% of grain area

 

 

As of August 1, Ukraine's agricultural enterprises of all categories reaped grains and leguminous plants (without corn) throughout the areas of 9.5 million ha or 78% from the general sowing areas for the 2011 harvest.

 

According to data of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, agricultural enterprises produced 21.1 million tonnes of grains (in clean weight), an increase of 21.3% compared to the same date of 2010. In particular, households of the population harvested 7.7 million tonnes (up 35.5%).

 

The average grain yield of agricultural enterprises totalled 31.1 c/ha (up 24.4% compared to the last year level), and the yield indices of households of the population totalled 28.5 c/ha (up 23.4%).

 

Winter grain production totalled 75% from the general grain and leguminous plants (without corn) production -23.3 million tonnes (up 30% compared to the last year level), including winter wheat-19.6 million tonnes (up 36.7%), winter barley-3.3 million tonnes (up 0.7%).

 

Spring grain production (5.5 million tonnes) increased by 6.5% compared to the previous year level. Spring barley (4.8 million tonnes) formed 87% from the general volumes of spring grain production, an increase of 12.1% (500,000 tonnes) compared to the last year volumes.
