Corn farmers in Pigcawayan, Philippines, to boost productivity with new machinery
Corn farmers in Pigcawayan, North Cotabato, Philippines, are set to enhance their productivity with the provision of a PHP 250,000 (US$4,300) corn sheller machine from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), Philippine News Agency reported.
Evangeline Bueno, Provincial Agrarian Reform Programme Officer (PARPO II), stated that the Barangay Anick Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries Cooperative (AARBC) received the machinery as part of the DAR's Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Programme-Sustainable Livelihood Support (CRFPSP-SLS).
"DAR remains committed to supporting agrarian reform beneficiaries in their efforts to increase productivity, which in turn helps to secure food sufficiency not only for the province but for the entire country," Bueno said.
She added that the farmers are the primary beneficiaries of the initiative, with the wider Barangay Anick community and Pigcawayan municipality also expected to benefit from the programme.
Maricel Bona, Municipal Agrarian Reform Programme Officer (MARPO), mentioned that the Barangay Anick ARB Cooperative was selected for the project following a rigorous evaluation process.
