Indonesia imports 8,990 head of cattle to reduce beef prices
Since August 11, Indonesia had imported 8,990 head of cattle, of which 4,168 had been slaughtered, as confirmed by the country's Trade Ministry's foreign trade director general, Bachrul Chairi.
"I hope the additional supply will help reduce beef prices here," Bachrul said in a press release on Tuesday (Aug 6).
According to the Meat Producers and Feedlot Association (Apfindo), to date 99,000 out of 109,000 cows had been slaughtered. The State Logistics Agency (Bulog) had supplied 951.97 tonnes of meat, less than half the allocation of 3,000 tonnes.
"The government has import agreements for 1,210 tonnes of frozen prime cuts with four import companies. The beef has already arrived in Indonesia," he said.
