South Africa corn yields fell by 42,000 tonnes last week

South Africa's corn yields for the 2007/08 season fell by 42,000 metric tonnes on the week to 83,000 tonnes last week, the South African Grain Information Service said in its weekly report.

So far, farmers have delivered 5.268 million tonnes, about 1.6 million tonnes away from projected yields of 6.904 million tonnes.

South African farmers harvest corn each year from about April to early August, with the key harvest months being June and July.

Wheat yields since October last year remained unchanged at 2.039 million tonnes last week after no deliveries were recorded for the week, SAGIS' report showed.

The total is 83,000 tonnes short of the projected 2.122 million tonnes.
