Thailand to tighten enforcement of poultry regulations
Measures to control bird flu would be enforced until the end of this year and campaigns to educate poultry vendors about bird flu would continue, Vice Minister for Agriculture Charal Trinvuthipong said Tuesday (Aug 15).
Authorities are expected to crack down on farmers raising free-range ducks who are required to switch to closed-system farming to prevent the spread of bird flu. So far, only about 60 percent of duck farmers have registered for the system.
Monitoring of migratory birds found in central Suphan Buri and northern Nakhon Sawan regions would also be continued, Charal said
Furthermore, he warned that traders who sell or transport poultry which died of unknown causes would be severely dealt with by the law.
