ASF-affected hog producers in Antique province, Philippines, receive insurance claims

The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) has started paying the insurance claims of hog producers in Antique province, the Philippines, whose swine were hit by the African swine fever (ASF) this August.

"Our first release of the indemnity was last August 1 amounting to around ₱174,400 (US$3,072) to two hog raisers in San Jose de Buenavista," said PCIC Antique Extension Office head Clogen Galuego in an interview.

The beneficiaries were among the over 300 swine producers who filed their claims with the PCIC due to ASF.

"There are around 2,000 hogs insured with the PCIC in San Jose de Buenavista, but only about 300 plus had been processed," Galuego said.

The indemnity for swine raisers from the municipality of Hamtic will be released once they receive the checks from the regional office, where the claims for about 400 hogs are in process.

The claims for 20 ASF-hit hogs from the municipality of Belison and death due to pneumonia for 60 hogs from Sibalom town are in process and expected to be released within this August or next month.
