UK's July beef production 4% more than June
The United Kingdom produced 72,400 tonnes of beef and veal in July, up 4% from June, but 1% below the same month a year ago, the UK's Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) said.
A total of 161,400 prime cattle were slaughtered during July, up 4% from the previous month, but more stable (-0.3%) versus July 2021. Cow slaughter stood at 50,200, up 9% from June, but again more in-line (+0.2%) with the same month a year ago.
Prime cattle carcass weights averaged 344.2kg in July, 1% lighter than both last month and in July 2021. Cows averaged 307.9kg, down 1% on both the month and the year.
For the year-to-date, prime cattle slaughter stood at 1.15 million, down 1% from the same period a year ago. Cow slaughter stood at 355,600 head, up 2% year-on-year.
Production totaled 517,500 tonnes in the period from January to July, down marginally (-0.5%) versus the same period year-on-year.
