Argentina to okay Monsanto's GM soy seeds

Monsanto's genetically modified Roundup Ready soy seeds will be approved by Argentina this week.

The country is the world's No. three soy exporter, top supplier of soyoil and soymeal and leading global exporter of biodiesel, made from soyoil.

Argentina's Agriculture Secretary Lorenzo Basso said Monday (Aug 13) that he would sign a government resolution to approve Roundup Ready two. The resolution will take effect after it is published in the government's official gazette, Reuters reports.

Roundup Ready two is already being planted in Brazil, the world's second-biggest soy producer.
