Ukraine Aug 1 grain stocks total 13.6 million tonnes
 

Grain stocks in Ukraine on Aug 1 totalled 13.6 million tonnes, 18 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Tuesday (Aug 14).

Wheat stocks totalled 9.4 million tonnes, 35 percent more than a year ago.

Out of the total amount, farmers held stocks of 8.7 million tonnes of grain, including 5.8 million tonnes of wheat. The rest of the grain was held by grain storage and processing enterprises.

The increase in grain stocks is due to an early start to the harvesting campaign this year, caused by hot weather.

Ukraine harvested 19.9 million tonnes of grain in bulk weight to Aug 1 on 9.6 million hectares or 40.3 percent of the planned total area, which is 14.1 percent more than on the same date last year.
