Russia's 2005/06 wheat exports total 10.22 million tonnes

 

 

Russia exported 10.22 million tonnes of wheat in the 2005/06 marketing year, compared with 7.67 million tonnes in the previous marketing year, according to the figures released Friday (Aug 11) by the federal customs authority.

 

The wheat exported in 2005/06 was worth US$1.13 billion, compared with US$887.5 million a year earlier.

 

The largest importer of Russian wheat in the 2005/06 marketing year was Egypt, which took 2.65 million tonnes compared with 1.99 million tonnes in the previous year.

 

Bangladesh became the second largest importer of Russian wheat with 932,600 tonnes, after importing only 10,120 tonnes in the previous marketing year.

 

Azerbaijan was the third largest importer of Russian wheat with 822,300 tonnes, a slight fall from the 851,500 tonnes it took in 2004/05.

 

Pakistan increased its wheat import from Russia to 610,000 tonnes from 191,000 tonnes in 2004/05, and Georgia's import of Russian wheat increased to 562,400 tonnes from 522,000 tonnes in 2004/05.
