Angola's Namibe may boost beef cattle, goats, pigs production
By 2017, the Angolan authorities plan to breed over 52 million head of beef cattle and goats.
There are currently two million head of beef cattle and goats in Namibe in the semi-arid area located at altitudes of between 700 metres and 1,200 metres.
A news agency reported that until 2009 Namibe province had around 550,000 head of beef cattle, which fell to 500,000 in less than four years.
In terms of pig breeding the authorities plan to achieve production of 993,000 and later to reach a total of three million.
The livestock Development Plan in Namibe also outlines production of 1.8 million goats by 2017 although the authorities' final target is 6.5 million.
