Chile announces new import measures on salmon eggs

Strict control measures monitoring imported salmon eggs has been announced by the Directorate of Fisheries (Sernapesca) of Chile.

The measures will serve as part of the new sanitary regulations that will be implemented in the fresh water salmon production industry, according to a report.

Sernapesca chief of the aquaculture unit Alicia Gallardo said measures are part of the strategy to strengthen the surveillance and prevention of diseases in trout, Atlantic salmon and coho.

According to reports, the fiscalisation and disinfection of eggs from countries with ISA and Pancreas Disease (PD) will be also very strict.

The institutional plan, as a result of a series of modifications to the Sanitary Regulation, incorporates inspections according to the sanitary risk, and contemplates actions to face contingencies.

This plan contemplates rest periods of seven days after the disinfection and cleaning of farms (in land). The mortality record and the reason of it will have to be sent every week to Sernapesca.
