Vietnam has become the world's largest exporter of tra fish products with a market share of 99.9 percent, citing Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

VASEP said the country's earnings from tra fish export were up 60 times over the past ten years while its tra fish output has leapt by 50 times.

Vietnamese tra fish products have been increasingly favored in Eastern Europe, Africa, and American with demand estimated to grow by ten folds against last year.

Last year, Vietnam reportedly earned US$1.44 billion from shipping 825,000 tonnes tra and basa fish products abroad, accounting for 2 percent the gross domestic product (GDP) value of the year.

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has drawn up a tra fish farming development master plan till 2020, under which the country aims to double its tra breeding acreage to 13,000 hectares and raise its output to nearly 2 million tonnes and its export value to more than US$2 billion.
