UK dairy farmers work on water management
About 73 percent of dairy farmers in the UK have changed the management of clean water on their farms in the past two years, in an effort to meet environmental challenge, according to a DairyCo survey.
The survey also showed that 79 percent of the farmers regularly check their farm water points for leaks, indicating environmental concerns are moving up in the farmers' agenda.
Farmers have done this through a combination of improved efficiency and adapting practices in order to acknowledge the importance of the environment, said Karen Wonnacott of DairyCo.
Environmental issues are also a rising concern among consumers. A survey jointly funded by DairyCo and the Dairy Council found that about 86 percent of respondents supported the use of new technologies in dairy production if they protected the environment.
