JBS seeks 5,200 new workers in Brazil to boost production

Brazilian-based JBS SA is looking to hire 5,200 workers in Brazil, looking to increase output in a key export area with new positions aimed at modernising the lines and assisting production, Reuters reported.

JBS and other competitors are also looking for new hires to replace high-risk workers such as pregnant women, as they cannot work due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The available jobs are for beef, poultry and pork slaughtering and deboning in 16 states in the country. There are positions in the company's distribution centers, poultry incubators, stores, and feed units.

Between March and June, JBS hired more than 10,000 workers in response to COVID-19. Many of its plants were temporarily closed or disrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Altogether there were 24,500 jobs taken up among Brazilian meatpackers in the first six months of this year, even as government data showed the country's economy left 1.2 million people out of jobs.

According to JBS, the new job postings are for south Brazil, where pork, poultry, and prepared foods are produced. The company announced a further 700 openings in Mato Grosso and Rondonia.
