Pork processing plant in Belgium reports 67 COVID-19 cases

 


Belgian-based Westvlees said 67 of its workers tested positive for COVID-19, adding to the number of COVID-19 outbreaks reported in meat plants globally, Reuters reported.


197 workers from the meat slaughtering division were tested and quarantined by Westvlees at its Westrozebeke, West Flanders plant on August 5 after a number of workers reported infections.


Manuel Goderis, product manager said all 850 workers will be tested this week.


The meat department is now closed but is slated to reopen on August 17.


Ireland and Greece are some of the other countries that have recently reported COVID-19 outbreaks at meat plants. Major outbreaks have already been reported in the United States, Brazil, Germany and Australia.
