Dairy One collaborates with CattleEye for innovative AI-driven livestock monitoring

US-based Dairy One has announced a partnership with CattleEye Autonomous Livestock Monitoring, a startup from Northern Ireland, to introduce an artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to revolutionise the practice of locomotion scoring for dairy cattle, offering a transformative approach to dairy farm management, Morning AgClips reported.

Although CattleEye is newly introduced to the US, it has already established its presence on European and UK farms, gaining recognition for its efficacy. The system's implementation on farms merely requires three key components, making it a streamlined addition to the dairy farming ecosystem.

John Gloss, director of agricultural management at Dairy One, said that CattleEye is a tool that is going to increase the value of hoof trimming programs on dairy farms, adding that it will change how quickly a cattle with a locomotion problem is found and moved into a treatment process.

The operational setup of CattleEye encompasses an essential internet connection on the farm, a strategically positioned security camera overlooking the entrance or exit of the milking parlour, and the utilisation of RFID tags for precise cow identification.

The AI-powered scanning mechanism of the system expertly evaluates a cow's walking gait, generating a comprehensive score. This score is then transmitted to the insights reporting page, offering real-time data integration into both a farm's existing herd management software and the dedicated CattleEye application.

Gloss said that cattle lameness isn't always easy to identify and track, but CattleEye is going to change that for dairies. Leveraging its continuous scanning capabilities, data recording prowess, and efficient data storage, CattleEye is poised to emerge as an invaluable asset for dairy farms.
