Cherkizovo CEO appointed as chairman of food policy committee

Cherkizovo Group has announced on August 4 the appointment of its chief executive officer Sergey Mikhailov as the chairman of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs' (RSPP) new Committee on Food Policy.

The committee seeks to improve the Russian population's access to quality domestic agriculture products and enhance Russian agriculture's role in ensuring global food security. It will also formulate the responsible approach of Russian businesses in tackling social problems related to ensuring the affordability of food for all groups of the local population.

Additionally, the committee will also seek to harness opportunities offered by innovation, modern technology and best management practices to improve the quality of domestic agriculture output. It will encourage the development of new consumption habits, including the drive towards ever healthier eating. This will be achieved through the launch of enhanced products and fostering of organic agriculture and food tech industries.

The committee will concern itself with other tasks including developing Russian agriculture exports, cementing Russian agribusiness's position in international markets and enhancing the country's role in the fight for global food security.

It will look into optimising the investment climate surrounding Russian food manufacturing, stimulating entrepreneurship in the agricultural and affiliated sectors as well as increasing the involvement of small and medium-sized businesses in agricultural production.

"It's a great honour to lead the RSPP Committee on Food Policy. Ahead of us stand numerous serious tasks. Yet, together I know we will take effective measures to improve the accessibility of quality food for all Russians," said Mikhailov. "What's more, we will be calling on a range of tools to improve transnational cooperation and thereby strengthen the clout and reputation of Russian farmers in international markets, whose products have such huge export potential."

Cherkizovo Group joined RSPP in August 2019. The company forms part of the Union's Commission on the Agricultural Complex and helps establish the industry's position on various matters, including, among others, improving access to government agriculture support measures and developing the export potential of Russian livestock products.
