China can't close door to foreign funds in agriculture sector

Â
China won't close the door to foreign funds in agriculture, even though there are concerns that doing so will threaten the sector, The Economic Observer reported Monday (August 10), citing a senior agricultural official.
Â
"So far, there is no proof that foreign (investments) have threatened the healthy development of China's agricultural (industry)," Chen Xiwen, director of the Communist Party's leading panel on rural issues, said in an interview to the newspaper.
Â
China's soy imports this year will likely reach 40 million tonnes, Chen said. The country imported more than 37 million tonnes last year, according to customs data.Â
