Japan buys feed wheat, feed barley at tender

Japan's Ministry of Agriculture bought 7,405 tonnes of feed wheat and 116,400 tonnes of feed barley via import tender under the simultaneous-buy-and-sell system (SBS), according to a ministry official Wednesday (August 8).

Shipment must be made between the time the contract is finalised and the end of November as volumes for both grains fell short of the ministry's originally planned purchase of 44,000 tonnes for feed wheat and 341,000 tonnes for feed barley as the number of actual bids was limited.

For both wheat and barley, all the bids were accepted, the official said.

The ministry has said it plans to buy a total of 200,000 tonnes of feed wheat and 1.41 million tonnes of feed barley in fiscal 2007/08.
