US beef exports to Philippines expected at US$2.5 million yearly

The US government expected fresh annual revenues from the country's beef exports to the Philippines at about US$2.5 million. This followed the Philippines' recent approval for resuming imports of deboned and deglanded US beef from cattle aged 30 months or less and which met other government standards.

In June this year, Philippine authorities had temporarily banned importation of all US beef and beef products following the discovery of a second case of mad cow disease there.

Before that, the Filipino government restricted imports of certain types of American beef after the first case of BSE was discovered in the US in 2003.

The US exported about US$4.9 million worth of beef and beef products to the Philippines that year, according to the USDA.
