Ridley opens new feed mill in Wellsford, Australia

Australian animal nutrition firm Ridley Corporation on Monday, Aug. 3, opened its new A$47- million (US$33.9-million) state-of-the-art feed mill at Wellsford, East Bendigo, in Victoria, Australia.

The mill, which can produce up to 350,000 tonnes of feeds annually, will supply poultry and pig farms in Central and Northern Victoria, according to the company in a press release.

"We look forward to leveraging the technology that this facility offers, together with Ridley's nutritional and raw material procurement expertise, to support the growth of livestock enterprises in this region", said Ridley Managing Director and CEO Quinton Hildebrand, who hosted the opening ceremony online.

With the opening of the Wellsford mill, the former Bendigo mill has been closed and will be sold. Moreover, the feed mill in Mooroopna town, also in Victoria, will transfer operations to the new Wellsford plant over the next six to nine months.

The company said the opening of the Wellsford plant completes its "asset renewal" programme, following the completion of new plants in Westbury in Tasmania, and Lara and Packenham in Victoria.

Ridley said it has invested $150 million (US$108.2 million) in these four facilities to support the future growth of the Australian animal protein and companion animal industries.
