ADM upgrades Bluffton feed plant

ADM Alliance Nutrition Inc has upgraded its facility in Bluffton, Indiana, in its goal to improve its feed manufacturing capabilities to provide highest-quality products for its customers.

The plant manufactures feed for dairy calves, dairy beef cattle, beef cattle, sheep, goats, wildlife and horses, including MoorMan's ShowTec line of premium swine and ruminant show feeds that help animals reach their maximum genetic potential.

Bruce McClain, ADM director of swine business, said the upgrade was the result of consolidating some business from another plant and expanding the product offering that the Bluffton facility previously hadn't been able to offer.

Upgrades to the Bluffton facility include:

* New dual meal and pellet loadout systems to enable manufacturing of both bulk pelleted and meal feeds concurrently;

* New dual pelleting system where multiple-pelleted products can be manufactured concurrently;

* New texturized feed system to enhance product availability;

* Addition of steam-flaking system for corn;

* Fifteen new raw ingredient bins that greatly enhance ingredient flexibility and cost structure;

* Four new pellet supply working bins, and

* Upgraded, state-of-the-art automated batching system.

Some of the new products from the Bluffton plant will be available to customers in Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The upgrade was completed in February and has been running at full capacity for three months.
