Heat wave in South Korea brings death to more than 200,000 livestock
A nationwide heat wave in South Korea has led to the deaths of over 257,000 livestock, the country's interior ministry said on August 5.
During the previous day, temperatures in Yeoju, 64 kilometers southeast of Seoul, reached 40C, marking the first time since 2018, which was recorded as the hottest year on record.
The heat wave killed 257,483 livestock from July 11 to August 3, including 235,880 poultry. Additionally, 5,867 flatfish from six fish farms died.
Last week, the interior ministry issued its highest heat wave warning and upgraded its response posture to the most critical level.
