First case of African swine flu outbreak reported in China

Officials from the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture have confirmed the first case of African swine flu in the country last Friday. This is also the first reported case in East Asia.

The local government have launched the African Swine Fever Contingency Plan and Emergency Response Level II, aligned to the Standards & Protocols for African swine fever.

47 pigs infected with the disease were found dead at a local pig farm in Shenbei New District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Following which, control measures have been taken and more than 900 pigs have been culled to prevent the outbreak from spreading.

A designated zone in the affected part of the city has been assigned by the agriculture minister and government authorities, where animal health workers are collecting samples from the hogs for a virus test.
