Quality Equipment introduces plastic slat plate for piggery flooring

UK equipment specialist, Quality Equipment, has developed a high density plastic slat plate for use as flooring in piggeries.

The product is an alternative to slatted floors, which positioned adjacent to feeders and are subjected to high wear. Such floorings do not comply with EU regulations regarding slat gaps and can be a danger to livestock. Concrete slat panels, another choice of flooring, are usually difficult and costly to replace.

Quality Equipment's plastic slat plates are simply placed over worn areas and are secured by stainless steel anchor bolts, either directly through the plate or via clips fixed around the edges.

Suitable for weaners, growers and finishers, the 15mm plates are generally supplied at 1m x 0.5m (3ft 3in x 1ft 7in) and slots can be cut to ensure a snug fit around equipment. Priced at US$45.46 per plate, including installation, they are suitable for areas which are damaged beyond repair. Larger plates can be supplied if required.

"With pig welfare rules tightening, piggeries are coming under increasing scrutiny, particularly slatted floors," said Quality Equipment's director, Graham Baker.  "We produced these panels in response to requests from customers and have already had a good feedback."

Quality Equipment has sold large quantities of a stainless steel slat inert which is developed in 2012 due to new EU regulations on maximum slat gaps.  The slat plate will complement this product.
