Russia intensifies goods inspection from Ukraine

Due to the outbreak of the African swine fever in the Zaporizhia region, Russia's federal service for veterinary and phyto-sanitary supervision (Rosselkhoznadzor) has intensified inspection of goods from Ukraine.

Rosselkhoznadzor announced this in a statement. Rosselkhoznadzor's Deputy Chairman Nikolai Vlasov signed the relevant decree.

Rosselkhoznadzor also ordered its regional offices to tighten control over the disposal of waste, including food waste, at international seaports and airports, as well as at border bus and train stations.

In addition, Rosselkhoznadzor has banned transportation of pork and pork products on transit through the Zaporizhia region if they are intended for/through Russia, regardless of the method of their packaging and means of transport.

At the same time, Russia does not intend to take additional measures to ban importation of pork and pork products because a ban by Ukraine's State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service is already in place.

Rosselkhoznadzor has asked the State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service to inform it about the situation involving the African swine fever virus in Ukraine.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Zaporizhia regional emergency anti-epizootic commission imposed quarantine on July 31 because of the outbreak of the African swine fever in the village of Komishevatka in the Prymorskyi district of the region.

The State Veterinary and Phytosanitary Service has banned export of pork and pork products from the Zaporizhia region.
