Lithuania bans Ukraine's pig imports

Lithuania has banned the imports of pigs, pig products and fodder from Ukraine due to an epidemic of African swine fever in that country.

The restrictions would apply until the establishment of the origin of the virus, the State Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) said in a press release.

The outbreak of African swine fever - the first ever in Ukraine - was registered in Ukraine's Zaporozhye region.

The outbreak occurred in one village of the Zaporozhye region in the south-east of Ukraine. All of 198 pigs in the village have been slaughtered.
