Poultry, cattle epidemics under control in Vietnam

No new outbreaks of bird flu, foot-and-mouth (FMD) and blue ear pig epidemics have been reported across the country during the past two weeks, according to the Animal Health Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD).

However, Kon Tum and Yen Bai provinces have not passed the 21 infection-free days required to announce themselves free from the infectious FMD.

Similarly, the blue ear pig epidemic has not been kept under control in Dak Lak and Quang Nam provinces for the past three weeks.

MARD deputy minister Diep Kinh Tan asked the four provinces to take immediate measures to stop the outbreaks from spreading.

Diep also asked provinces and cities to fully observe regulations on the management and transportation of cattle to ensure that the FMD epidemic will stop being spread in a scattered manner between localities.
