Chile exports US$1.707 billion of fishery products from January to May
 

 

Chile exported US$1.707 billion worth of fishery products from January to May, up 21.3 percent from US$1.407 billion during the same period last year, according to the Fisheries Sub Secretariat (SUBPESCA).
 

Export volume during the same period rose 5.5 percent on-year to 633,639 tonnes, with frozen products and fishmeal products accounting for 40.9 percent and 36.6 percent of total sales respectively. Fresh chilled and canned products accounted for the remainder of sales.

 

Shipments overseas from Chile's aquaculture sector registered 258,000 tonnes worth US$1.181 billion.

 

According to SUBPESCA, Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout accounted for a major portion of total export sales value, at 36.1 percent and 15.5 percent respectively.

 

Fishmeal held the biggest share of total export volume at 55.9 percent, followed by frozen produce (26.4 percent) and canned products (8.8 percent).
