Chile's Salmones Camanchaca slaughtered more than 10,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon in Q2 2024
Major Chilean salmon farming company Salmones Camanchaca slaughtered 11,643 tonnes of Atlantic salmon in the second quarter of 2024 – almost double the figure for the same period last year.
The Q2 figure for 2022 was just 6,400 tonnes.
The average weight of harvested fish increased from 4.4 kilos in the first three months of this year 2024 to five kilos in Q2, while the ex-cage cost decreased to US$4.99/kg from US$5.28/kg in the first quarter.
Sales in Q2 2024 totalled approximately 11,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon and 2,100 tonnes of coho. The coho inventory was reduced by approximately 50% by the end of Q2 compared to the end of the first quarter in 2024.
Salmones Camanchaca estimated a total harvest of between 46,000 tonnes and 48,000 tonnes of Atlantic salmon for 2024, up from 44,100 tonnes in 2023.
For coho, the company projects a harvest of 4,000 tonnes to 5,000 tonnes, compared to 11,400 tonnes in 2023.
Salmones Camanchaca SA, which employs almost 2,000 people, currently has its main overseas markets in the United States and Mexico. It has five freshwater fish farms, 73 aquaculture concessions for cultivation in the sea and two processing plants to develop its production process work.
