Alltech announces dates and speakers of its 2005 Asia Pacific Lecture Tour - ''Create, Innovate, Elevate''

 

Alltech announces its tour dates for the 2005 Asia-Pacific Lecture Tour (APLT). This year's theme "Create, Innovate, Elevate" reflects the theme of Alltech's 21st International Feed Industry Symposium and would focus on the topic of gut health.  The tour would begin on Friday, November 4th, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and conclude in Melbourne, Australia, on Friday, November 18th.

 

Speakers on the tour would include:

    • Dr. Pearse Lyons, President of Alltech
      Dr. Pearse Lyons is founder and president of Alltech, a company that employs over 1,500 people in 85 countries. Dr. Lyons received his B.S. and M.S. from University College Dublin, Ireland.  After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham in the UK, he worked in the alcohol industry in Ireland, the UK and the US. He founded Alltech in 1980, and today the company is one of the top 20 animal health companies in the world reaching group sales of approximately US$250 million. He has authored over 20 books and many research papers in scientific journals. In 2004, Dr. Lyons received an honorary doctorate from University College Dublin, Ireland, and from the Herriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.
       
    • Dr. Ronan Power, Director of Research, Alltech
      Dr. Ronan Power is the Director of Research at Alltech. He received his B.S. in Microbiology and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the National University of Ireland. Following his graduate studies, he served as a research assistant in the Department of Cell Biology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, US. He was also involved in research on measuring the activity of digestive enzymes in feed, the bioavailability and tissue targeting of chelated minerals, and the use of natural biologicals in reducing the environmental impact of intensive agriculture.
       
    • Dr. Alastair Johnston, Minster Veterinary Practice
      Dr. Alistair Johnston is a partner in the Minster Veterinary Practice, UK. He received his Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery from the University of Glasgow Veterinary School. After college, he joined the University of Liverpool's research team before moving to Grant and Partners. He is currently a partner with the Minster Veterinary Practice specialising solely in poultry. He is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Veterinary Poultry Association, and was President in 2003.
       
    • Dr. Peter Spring, Swiss Agricultural College
      Peter Spring received his B.S. in Animal Science and his M.S. in Animal Nutrition from the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland. After college, he joined the Alltech research team in Nicholasville, Kentucky, US. His research focused on the effect of enzymes and probiotics on gut microbiology, animal health and performance. After completing his Ph.D. on "The Effect of Mannanoligosaccharides on Colonisation of Enteric Pathogens in Poultry", he served as research coordinator in Alltech's North American Biosciences Centre. He is now a professor for Animal Sciences at the Swiss College of Agriculture and works as a consultant in the feed industry.
