Vietnam to export 2 million African swine fever vaccines to Philippines and Indonesia

Vietnam is set to make significant strides in combating African swine fever (ASF) as it prepares to export 2 million doses of ASF vaccines to the Philippines and Indonesia between August and October this year, Vietnam Plus reported.

This initiative comes as a collaborative effort between Vietnam's ASF vaccine producers and local authorities, aiming to curb the impact of the disease that has affected swine populations.

Nguyen Van Long, Director of the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), confirmed that the Philippines has previously imported 300,000 doses of these vaccines.

In a proactive measure, Vietnamese ASF vaccine producers are partnering with local entities to initiate comprehensive vaccination campaigns targeting swine herds. This deployment encompasses households, farms, and businesses, all seeking to safeguard their pig populations against the virus.

The export of domestically produced ASF vaccines to multiple countries with positive feedback not only reflects Vietnam's contribution to international disease management but also positions the nation to broaden its global export markets for this crucial product.

Having administered 600,000 doses of ASF vaccines to pigs across more than 40 provinces and cities under the Department of Animal Health's supervision, Vietnam has observed favourable outcomes. As a result, the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has expanded the scale of ASF vaccine usage across numerous localities.

Director Nguyen Van Long said that enterprises involved must vigilantly monitor and uphold the quality of the vaccines they provide to the market. This ensures the efficacy and safety of the vaccine interventions.

Vietnam's proactive approach extends to collaborating with other nations. In response to requests from certain countries, Vietnam has not only extended support but also dispatched experts to assist in organising vaccination campaigns abroad.

Notably, Vietnam's ASF vaccine achievements are already yielding positive results internationally. The NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine, developed by NAVETCO Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company, demonstrated its efficacy in the Dominican Republic, with the country expressing gratitude for the support and expressing interest in purchasing the vaccines for future use.

Similarly, the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine, created by AVAC Vietnam JSC, has undergone careful evaluation in the Philippines. Local authorities have validated the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine, noting a 100% immune response among the vaccinated swine.
