Ecuador exports record shrimp volumes
Shrimp exports reached a record in the first six months of the year, according to the country's National Chamber of Fisheries.
Exported volumes surpassed exports from 1998, the previous record year.
The country exported 152 million pounds of shrimp at US$339.6 million, according to Equador Investing.
Shrimp export volumes this year were 14 percent larger than in 1998, but prices back then were higher.
Ecuador Investing said the country earned US$488.2 million that year.
In addition, May 2008 was a record for monthly shrimp exports.
Although volume declined in June, exports were up 15.6 per cent compared to June 2007.
