CFS introduces efficient packaging equipment

Press release

CFS has introduced its new tray sealing equipment CFS TwinStar to help producers of case ready, meal components, ready meals or sliced products improve their performance and benefit from enhanced food safety and lower costs per pack.

Better performance does not necessarily mean increased cycle frequency, and higher productivity should be accompanied by reduced costs at the same time, the company said.

With the CFS TwinStar, all processes and construction details have been consistently optimised with respect to longer machine running times. In practice, this means reduced maintenance and cleaning times, increased technical machine availability and improved interfaces, CFS explained.

CFS TwinStar has a special wash-down design, hinged side panels and complete construction made of stainless steel and food-approved materials.

Just as important as cleaning times are the downtimes when changing formats or products. With CFS TwinStar, format changing is done in less than 10 minutes, with conversion from MAP to skin done by a simple die changeover. This is due to free access to all parts and other intelligent solutions such as the CFS die-set trolley with automatic self-positioning on the CFS TwinStar docking station. Additionally, the trolley can be used to store die-set components and serve as a maintenance cart.

Besides allowing high operating safety through graphical user controls on an advanced CFS touch-screen, improvements can be found under the stainless steel cover. Servo motor controls enable more precise tray transport, secure sealing, less energy consumption, lower noise levels and less foil consumption.

As CFS TwinStar is the central module in a packaging concept, optimisation of interfaces is crucial when enhancing performance. With the CFS FlexDenester unit, individual trays, automatic or controlled by CFS TwinStar, are denested on the transport conveyor. Due to the high buffer capacity, refilling is possible without interrupting the machine cycle. The CFS FlexDenester can be altered to a new format by simply replacing the denester exchange unit.

A fundamental aspect of enhancing CFS TwinStar's performance is CostFox, a newly developed business analysis software by CFS that provides detailed information on how to optimise efficiency of the packaging equipment and how to achieve further saving potentials, the company said.
