NGOs in Finland protest against GMO soy imports
Several non-governmental organisations in Finland are opposing against some companies in its plans to import genetically modified soy which would be used for animal feed.
The groups are mulling to boycott LSO-Foods on its plans to import GM soy and meat processors Järvi-Suomen Portti and HKScan as it uses feed imported by LSO-Foods.
The citizens worry that the use of GMO fodder may cause slight alterations in the liver and spleen of animals. The modified DNA could be transferred to the meat and, if it is poorly cooked, into humans.
CEO Kari Tillanen of Järvi-Suomen Portti said no company has started imports of GMO fodder yet. The company's products are GMO free and safe.
