China's live eel export volume up 17.6 percent on-year in H1 2007

 

 

For the first half of 2007, China exported 10,266 tonnes of live eel, an increase of 17.6 percent compared with 8,727 tonnes in H1 2006. Exports in H1 2007 were worth US$84.5 million, down 15.3 percent compared with US$100.2 million in the same period last year.

 

For the month of June, 1,060 tonnes of live eel were exported. Of these, 979 tonnes and 75 tonnes were exported to Japan and Hong Kong respectively. Total live eel export value in June was US$9.5 million.

 

Meanwhile, China's grilled eel export volume reached 49,155 tonnes in H1 2007, an increase of 10.3 percent from 44,549 tonnes in H1 2006. Exports of grilled eel were worth US$570.62 million in H1 2007, up by 28 percent compared with the same period last year.

 

For the month of June, China exported 5,379 tonnes of grilled eel, valued at US$65.7 million.
