USDA reports slight variations in US corn and soybean condition ratings

 
 


The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported minor changes in the national corn and soybean condition ratings for the past week, following another week of mixed weather conditions across major US growing areas, Brownfield Ag News reported.

 

As of Sunday, 68% of US corn is rated good to excellent, an increase of 1% from the previous week. Currently, 77% of the corn crop is silking, and 30% has reached the dough-making stage, both ahead of their respective five-year averages.

 

In contrast, 67% of US soybeans are in good to excellent condition, down 1% from the prior week. Despite this, 77% of the soybean crop is blooming, and 44% is at the pod-setting stage, both progressing faster than average.

 

Regarding other crops, 82% of winter wheat has been harvested, compared to the normal rate of 80%.

 

Spring wheat ratings have declined, with 74% rated as good to excellent, a decrease of 3%. Additionally, 94% of the spring wheat crop has headed, and 1% has been harvested, both lagging behind most years.

 

39% of US pastures and rangelands are rated good to excellent, showing a slight week-to-week decline of 1%.
