Hypor begins rebuilding of sow nucleus facility in Canada
Pig genetics company Hypor has announced the start of a rebuilding process for its Bon Accord nucleus facility in Ituna, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Given the company's continued growth in the Americas and around the world, the move marks Hypor's effort in enlarging its "global nucleus population" and reinvesting in production assets.
The high-tech facility will be a 1,200-sow farrow to finish, great grandparent (GGP) nucleus facility for the Hypor Dam Line programme. It will allow Hypor to continue collecting all current trait information for its breeding programme, automate more processes and provide greater capacity to develop new traits for continuous improvement.
The unit will also be fitted with the latest innovations in housing and automatic data recording equipment to capture individual feed and performance records, enable automatic sow weighing and heat detection, and recording of individual lactation feed intake.
"As always, Hypor is investing in the latest and best technology, and our clients will reap the rewards," the company stated in a press release.
"This project follows the recent renovations of our nucleus facilities in France and is the next project in Hypors' Vision 2020, which is focused on a complete renewal of our nucleus assets. Following the completion of the Bon Accord rebuilding initiative, we will undertake similar projects in Spain, the United States and again in Canada."
Hypor added that the developments are part its Vision 2020 programme that "will continue to unfold in the next few years."
